Would you like to start a new hobby? Maybe crochet? Well, you’re in the right spot!
Today I’m going to cover everything you’ll need to start crocheting!
First you’ll need some yarn! Seems easy enough, but if you’re just starting out, make sure to pick worsted weight yarn. Pick up a skein of yarn and check out that label! It’ll usually have a lot of info, like the color name, the brand, the lot number, and you’ll see some little pictures.
When just starting out, I recommend sticking to yarn that has the number 4 like shown:
These number indicate how thick or thin the yarn and a 4 is right in the middle and perfect for most projects! I like to you bulky yarns for big scarves or blankets and the lighter weight yarns are more for shawls and socks. But like I said, the majority of my yarn is the medium weight yarn.
I like to use Red Heart Yarn like this one:
Next, you’ll need at least 1 crochet hook! If you’re just learning, I recommend one of these:
Or if you’re not sure you’ll stick with it, maybe get cheaper hooks (which I used until recently, so about 5-6 years now!):
Then you’ll need a tapestry needle! This is a dull needle that you’ll use to sew in the ends of your yarn when you finish a project! They can be found at any craft store or you can order them here:
As you can see it’s a relatively cheap hobby to get into, though I’ll warn you that it’s quite addictive! It’s VERY difficult to leave the craft store without at least 5 new skeins of yarn!
Okay, so now you have all the stuff, now what? Well, there’s a lot of tutorials on YouTube or other blog sites, but I also have a course that will get you started all in one place!
I hope this is helpful for anyone interested in getting into crochet but just not knowing all that it involves. Now you know what you’ll need and I hope you go out there and start crocheting!
